Students were given a book to read. The teacher followed along while the student read the book. Afterwards the teacher would ask students questions. Some example questions: What lesson does the character learn in this story? Use a detail from the story to explain your answer. Tell what happens in this story. Be sure to tell about the beginning, the middle, and the end. How do the characters feel in the story? How do you know? Look at a particular section in the book. Tell the most important ideas in these pages. How does the picture on page______ help you learn more about ___________________
Student Two also scored very high on her reading comprehension assessment. I would again challenge her to read more challenging books for her grade level and have her answer comprehension questions on them. This student really likes writing so I would give her weekly writing assignments that encourage her to develop stories with a lot of emotion and plot development.
