Students were asked to read a passage and afterwards were asked some questions. Some example questions were: What was the student getting ready for? What did she have to bring a form home for? Was she excited about picture day?
The teacher marked off if the student answered using one of the acceptable answers listed on the prompt.
Student Two also excelled in this assessment. She was able to retell the story she read with great detail. I would challenge her to pick more in depth books. I would also have her write summaries in her writing journal when the students have free writing time. I wouldn't necessarily make her do full length reports, but have her write summaries in her own words so that it feels more like a free writing assignment. I would also have her read with other students and lead story retelling groups.
