Students were asked to read a passage and afterwards were asked some questions. Some example questions were: What was the student getting ready for? What did she have to bring a form home for? Was she excited about picture day?
The teacher marked off if the student answered using one of the acceptable answers listed on the prompt.
Since student One struggle with vocabulary he didn't do as well on the story retell portion of this assessment. I would focus on vocabulary and use the Lexia program to help him in this area. Since student One is an ELL student I would teach him how to gain information from the images before he even reads the text. Sparking his background knowledge on something before reading the text could help him decode some of the words as well as the meaning of the story. I would also have him read with a partner and have him and his partner talk about the different things that are happening in the book to practice story retelling.
