Student Three was able to read these nonsense words but for most of the words he had to break down each individual sounds and then blend it together. While he was doing this he was pronouncing the letter instead of the sound. It did seem like he thought he was supposed to say each part of the word and then blend it so I would try to re-explain the directions and then do the assessment over to get more accurate results. Since this student is at a relatively high reading level for his grade, I would have him read books at a lower level aloud to me during guided reading practice. This would allow him to practice blending sounds while also being able to comprehend the words and meaning. I would also assign him to complete the phonics exercises on his Razzkids account.
