Student One struggle with reading words as a whole. He had to break apart each word and then blend them. When he was reading the "nonsense words" he would also mix up sounds for letters such as "d" and "b". I would start by working with him on talking about words that start with the same letter. I would do this orally and then switch to having him writing these words down. I would then have him write in a writing journal each day for at least fifteen minutes in order to have him become more familiar with sounding out words when writing.
