Based on the interview with Student F, I realized that he may be struggling with reading because English is not the first language spoken at home. He does not have anyone that reads to him at home even though he does enjoy being read to. He likes technology a lot and talks about his iPad constantly. Based on these things I would assign him with a reading buddy so that he can have someone reading to him and helping him become more familiar with the English language. I would then find a reading program that he could download on his iPad at home. This would hopefully encourage him to read more on his own. I would also try to reach out to someone at home and work out a reading log with them to encourage them to become more involved with helping his reading and writing progress at home. Letting him type his papers on the computer in class may also help him become more interested in writing.
